PREAMBLE
There is huge potential of Tight Gas Reservoirs in Pakistan which at present cannot be exploited to augment the production of hydrocarbons in Pakistan due to the reason that the production from tight sand is expensive and difficult. Around the world, many countries are now producing from their tight sand reservoirs and achieving good commercial benefits.
PPEPCA ORGANIZED a two-day seminar titled “Untapping Tight Gas Reservoirs” to brain-storm and discuss all issues related to the development of tight gas reservoirs and find a workable solution for Pakistan’s E&P Industry to be able to exploit this untapped potential to reduce the widening gap between supply and demand.
Mainly there are three players in this game i.e. the Government of Pakistan, Upstream Petroleum Companies and the Service Providers. PPEPCA had brought all the three players together at this seminar with a view to brain-storming and arriving at a win-win solution; that the Government of Pakistan could have additional gas at their disposal to offset, to a respectable extent, the huge deficit of oil and gas in Pakistan at a price lesser than the imported petroleum, the E & P companies may produce gas from tight reservoir with adequate commercial benefits and service providers get more jobs at reasonable rates.
The seminar was organized at Islamabad on 3-4 November 2008. The proceedings of the Seminar have been placed on the PPEPCA Website for reference. |
